Publishers Letter. April 2014

April 2014 Cover

This month of April brings us another reminder of our commitment to the earth and the trace we leave on it.  With blooms in air and buds on trees, we can see the beauty of the planet unfold before us in conjunction with Earth Day on April 22nd. It is a natural reminder for us to pause, take a deep breath and observe our daily actions that can help or harm our environment.  Natural Awakenings welcomes you to learn, engage and connect with other like-minded ecologically responsible individuals at events this month, such as Green Festival at Pier 94 on April 26-27 and Earth Day New York at Union Square and Grand Central on April 22-24.

July Cover

Dear Natural Awakenings Readers and Friends,

Food, glorious food! This month's theme has to do with all the summer pleasures we enjoy: food, fun and personal glory! It is no wonder that when Lionel Bart wrote the opening song for the musical Oliver! he named it "Food, Glorious Food!" It is sung when the workhouse boys from the 1960s West End and Broadway musical and 1968 film adaptation are dreaming and fantasizing about food while going to collect their porridge from the staff of the workhouse. It goes to show you that all classes and generations often consider food as being a glorious experience. And why is that?
